Something in Edits stopped working, and you want it fixed without spending an evening on forums. This help index is the starting point: every common Edits problem, grouped by type, with the fixes in the order you should actually try them. Each guide below opens with the symptom, ranks the likely causes, and walks through fixes from quickest to deepest. Nothing here asks you to download a third-party “fixer” app or pay anyone, and nothing here invents error codes or official statements that do not exist.
Edits Guide is an independent, unofficial guide. We are not affiliated with, endorsed by, or connected to Meta Platforms, Inc. or Instagram, and we cannot see your account, your drafts, or Instagram’s servers. What we can do is tell you which fixes are safe, which order to try them in, and how to recognize the problems you cannot fix yourself — the staged rollouts and server outages where waiting, and checking the updates page, is the genuine answer.
Start here: the 30-second triage. Before opening any guide, run these three checks: first, force-close Edits and reopen it; second, check that your phone has free storage and a stable connection; third, confirm Edits is updated to the latest version in the official store. A large share of all Edits problems clear at one of those three steps, and every guide below assumes you have already tried them.
Problems that stop Edits from starting
These are the problems where the app will not open, crashes on launch, or cannot be found on your phone after an update.
App Crashing or Won’t Open
Edits closes on launch, freezes on the logo screen, or crashes mid-edit. Causes ranked from a corrupt cache to a bad update, with fixes in order.
Update Problems
The update will not download, will not install, or makes things worse. Includes how to tell a staged rollout from a real failure.
Edits Not Available
Edits does not appear in your store, says it is not available in your region, or will not install on your device. Region, device, and account causes explained.
Export problems
Your edit is done, but the finished video will not leave the app cleanly — or it leaves looking worse than it did on the timeline.
Export Failed
The export stops partway, restarts endlessly, or ends with a failure message. Storage, clip, and app causes in fix order.
Blurry Export
The video looks sharp while editing but soft, pixelated, or low-resolution after export. Export settings and source-clip causes explained.
Upload Stuck
The video exports fine but will not upload to Instagram, or the upload stalls partway. Connection, format, and account causes ranked.
Not Enough Storage
Edits warns about storage, or exports and saves fail with no clear reason. How to free space without deleting your drafts first.
Feature problems
The app opens and exports, but one feature misbehaves: no sound, captions that will not generate, a green screen that will not key, or music that gets muted.
No Sound or Audio Missing
Your video plays silently, music vanishes on export, or voiceover will not record. Mute switches, permissions, and track causes in order.
Captions Not Working
Automatic captions will not generate, appear in the wrong language, or vanish after export. Audio quality and language causes ranked.
Green Screen Not Working
The background will not disappear, edges look ragged, or the effect will not apply at all. Lighting, footage, and clip-order fixes.
Music Copyright Issues
A track is muted, blocked, or removed after posting. What the rules actually say, and which swaps keep your video alive.
Account problems
These problems are tied to your sign-in or your saved work rather than to editing itself, and they need a different kind of care — especially before you uninstall anything.
Login Problems
Edits will not sign in, loops back to the login screen, or says your account is not eligible. Instagram sign-in and account causes in order.
Drafts Disappeared
A project is gone from the drafts list after an update, a crash, or a reinstall. What is recoverable, what is not, and how to protect the rest.
Before you try anything: the safe-fix rules
Do not uninstall Edits as a first step. Drafts live on your phone, and uninstalling the app usually deletes them with it. Every guide in this section tries the non-destructive fixes first — restart, cache, settings, storage — and only reaches reinstall after warning you to export or back up anything you cannot afford to lose. If a guide tells you to reinstall, read its backup step first.
Change one thing at a time. If you clear the cache, update the app, and restart the phone all at once, you will never know which step fixed it — and you cannot avoid the cause next time. Work through each guide’s fixes in order, testing after each one. The order is deliberate: quickest and safest first, deepest last.
Do not sideload a “fixed” copy of Edits. Websites offering patched or unlocked Edits downloads are the single most common way creators lose accounts: the files can carry malware, and signing in through them hands your Instagram credentials to strangers. The APK safety guide explains the risks in full. If Edits will not install from the official store, the not-available guide covers the legitimate reasons and routes.
Save the evidence. If a problem persists, take a screenshot or screen recording of the exact message and note what you were doing when it happened. That record is what lets you describe the problem precisely — to a friend, to in-app help, or to us through the contact form — instead of guessing at it later.
How to tell when it is a rollout or a server problem
Some Edits problems are not on your phone at all. Features reach accounts in waves, so a feature your friend has may simply not have reached you yet; that is a staged rollout, not a broken app, and no amount of reinstalling will summon it early. The signs are consistent: the same feature is missing or broken on a second device with the same account, friends report the identical problem at the same time, and the app otherwise works fine.
Server problems look similar but broader: uploads stall for everyone, sign-in fails everywhere, or a feature breaks at the same hour across accounts. When you see that pattern, the honest fix is to stop troubleshooting your phone and wait. Check the updates page for anything we have confirmed, then retry after a few hours. Repeated reinstalls during an outage only risk your drafts for no benefit, and they will not speed up a fix that has to come from Instagram’s side.
One more honest note: this help section describes what worked for the problems we could reproduce and reason about. Phones, app versions, and Instagram’s own systems change constantly, so if a fix here does not match what you see on screen, trust your screen — and tell us through the contact form so the guide can be corrected.
Frequently asked questions
Why did Edits stop working right after an update?
Updates change code that your phone’s setup may handle differently — an older operating system, a nearly full drive, or a conflicting setting can turn a routine update into a crash or a broken feature. The fix order in the crashing guide and the update guide covers this: restart, clear the cache, free storage, and only then reinstall with your drafts backed up. If the same update broke Edits for many people at once, that points to a bad release rather than your phone, and the honest move is to wait for the follow-up fix while checking the updates page.
Will reinstalling Edits delete my drafts?
Usually, yes. Drafts are stored on your phone, not in your Instagram account, so uninstalling the app normally removes them along with it. That is why every guide here treats reinstall as a last resort and tells you to export finished work first. If a draft has already vanished, the drafts guide explains what is recoverable — for example, a project that disappeared after a crash is sometimes still on the device under a different name — and what is genuinely gone, so you do not waste hours chasing it.
Is there an official Edits support team I can contact?
Edits is made by Instagram, and support runs through Instagram’s own help channels inside the app and on the web. This guide is unofficial and cannot access your account, so for account-specific problems — a locked account, a disabled feature tied to your profile — Instagram’s channels are the only route that can actually act. What this help section does is narrower and, for most problems, faster: it tells you which fixes are safe, in which order, and when the problem is on Instagram’s side and waiting is the only real answer.
How do I know whether the problem is my phone or Edits itself?
Test on a second device or a second account if you can. If the same problem appears on another phone with the same account, the cause is probably the account or Instagram’s systems. If it appears on the same phone with a different account, the phone or the app install is the likelier cause. If it appears only in one project, the project itself — a damaged clip, an unusual effect — is the suspect, and the export guide shows how to isolate it by testing a short copy of the timeline.
A feature my friend has is missing from my app. Is my app broken?
Almost certainly not. Instagram releases features in waves, so accounts receive them days or weeks apart, and some features are limited by device, operating system version, or region. Reinstalling will not pull a staged rollout forward, and neither will clearing data. The not-available guide explains the rollout pattern and the checks that distinguish it from a genuine install problem. If your app is otherwise up to date and healthy, waiting is the correct fix — frustrating, but real.
