Instagram Edits changes often. Buttons move, new tools appear, and features roll out to different phones at different times. This page tracks what is new and what has changed, so you can tell whether a tutorial still matches the app on your phone — and what to do when it does not.
Last checked: October 24, 2026. Edits remains a mobile app for iOS and Android; there is still no official desktop version. See the desktop availability page for the full picture.
How Edits updates work
Edits updates through the App Store and Google Play like any other app. New features usually roll out in stages: some people see a tool weeks before others, and a feature can look slightly different depending on your phone and region. That is normal, and it is the most common reason a tutorial screenshot looks a little different from your screen.
When a guide on this site stops matching the app, we re-test it and update the steps. If you spot a mismatch, send a note through the contact form — reader reports are the fastest way we find moved buttons.
What we check on every review
- Captions: automatic caption generation, styles, and timing controls.
- Cutting tools: trimming, splitting, and reordering clips on the timeline.
- Export: resolution and quality options, and whether exports stay sharp.
- Effects and AI tools: green screen, animations, and the current AI effects.
- Audio: music, voiceover, and level controls.
- Text and templates: title styles, fonts, and template behavior.
When a feature is missing on your phone
- Update the app. Open the App Store or Google Play listing for Edits and install any pending update.
- Restart the app. Close Edits fully and reopen it; staged features sometimes appear after a restart.
- Wait out the rollout. If a feature is rolling out gradually, it may simply not have reached your account yet.
- Check the tutorial date. Every guide shows its published and updated dates at the top. A guide written before a change may describe the older layout.
October 2026 notes
As of October 24, 2026, the tutorial library on Edits Guide covers the core editing workflow end to end: captions, trimming and splitting, export settings, green screen, music and audio, text and titles, transitions, templates, AI effects, and the teleprompter. Each guide in the tutorials hub was written against the current app and includes the steps, the common mistakes, and the fixes.
Two things have not changed: Edits is still free to download from the official store listings, and there is still no official desktop app. Any site claiming otherwise is not describing the official app.
Frequently asked questions
How do I update Edits?
Open the App Store or Google Play, search for Edits, and tap Update if one is available. Automatic updates handle this for most people.
Why does my friend have a feature I do not?
Features roll out in stages by account, device, and region. Updating the app and restarting it helps, but sometimes the only fix is waiting for the rollout to reach you.
Do updates delete my drafts?
Normal app updates do not delete drafts. Still, export anything important before a big update, just in case — finished videos are safer than unfinished projects.
Where can I get Edits safely?
Only from the official listings: Google Play and the App Store. Never install Edits from a third-party download site.
